Futuring Medical Technology

In the next 10 years we will see implant under the skin that will hold medical information, personal passports and possible personal information. To further the research in this area we will need a collaborative means to complete. The typical Delphi method and the modified NGT process will give us an approach that will bring the leading researchers together to combine experience, research, literature and possible implementations that is already in use. The Delphi wiki gives the experts the means to combine their research, ask the questions, and discuss the pilot studies. The other method of approach is the modified NGT processes which will in the research part, gives personnel in the study the ability to ask questions and give feedback on their own progress. This will give the medical study a more rounded approach without interfering with progress and get essential and vital results that could be life saving and  does not deter the results found.
Moving forward in this innovation, there are two possible forces that could impede the process. One process that could impede the advancement is legal/ethical means of gathering information from the device. Devices like these will need to be protected and read through technological means that is only available to medical staff and hospitals. The other is the governmental regulation over the personnel information being disclosed. The protection of people in the medical or corporate environments falls under the HIPPA law. This law will need to be looked into further to ensure the law confides to this technology.
On the other hand there are major forces that can support the implementation of the devices. The means of protecting and ensuring the patient is able to get the proper treatment. These medical devices give doctors the advantages that they would normally not have. There is technological support that can develop into more advance devices that can do more, like discussed in the Bionic Woman story. Having advancements in technology like this can lead to more innovation in the field where wires and bulky devices are smaller and self contained to save people.
When our committee meets on this innovation advancement, we need to have open and closed collaboration. If we use a closed collaboration approach by itself, we do not get a bias opinion on areas that are being overlooked. If we use the open approach by itself, we get a more general approach and not able to get into the detail of the specifics of the study. By combining the collaboration between researchers and subjects we can refine the technology or advancements in the proper direction with excellent results to help save lives. The board is able to bring all information back to ensure focus in the area of research.

Future Emerging Technology

To look for a future innovated idea we have to look at what has already been worked on. I said from my first post that medical implants that hold personal information of people. It will also be a passport depending on the organizations reading machine. These will need security as people need to secure their own information that is readily available. To discuss what we see for the future we have to look at the past to help refine what has already been accomplished. I have ran across technology that is recent but has been in development for years. It is the artificial heart which has saved lives and keeping people alive until they can be healed. On instance it the Bionic Woman (not the TV show) that is kept alive by a battery powered heart. This heart pumps blood on one side of her heart where it has quit. She is working on a new transplant as this artificial heart keeps her alive.

2. In the next 20 years we will be able to have full skin suits which allows us to interact with the technology around us even on the screens of computers, TV's, radios, etc..

This technology can happen in the next 20 years due to articles that I have read. The article is called
Virtual Immortality for Virtual Eternity by Patrick Tucker. He describes how people will be able to live in a virtual environment when their memory has been down loaded to a machine. He describes the availability that can be accessible to everyone so they can remember and interact but in a 3 D world. The article also states that these types of virtual environments already exist where people are able to be in a virtual environment and do what they would like. He specifically mentions Second Life in the article as a comparison against the possibilities of living virtual for real. It opens up new doors for research and advancements in this technology.

Advancing Medicine with Technology

I am featuring this video on my blog for two reasons. One is the medical discoveries are done through innovative young people. Eve talks about how she studied metal deposits in fruit flies and the effects on the neurological system. Eve also discusses the means of cancer and how it gets transported through the body. The cancer cells usually attach to lymph in the body which grow into tumors. There have been rare occasions where the muscle tissue has cancer attached . This is caused by the metabolically structure and design the muscle is composed of.

The second reason that I chose this video is due to a paper I have read on Medical Nanobots repairing cells and damaged tissues in the body by Dick Pelletier. If we could integrate these two innovative ideas and place them into practice. We would be able to minimize Alzheimer as discussed by Eve by allowing the nanobots to enter into the bloodstream and allow them to detect bad tissue and repair. I also see where this could be helpful if built to destroy cancerous cells traveling through the blood stream as they will. 

There is still some theoretical issues that will need to be worked out. Before we are able to move forward in this endeavor we need to ask questions. How will the nanobot know if it is a bad cell or not? Will the nanobot live forever or quit after a period of time (Ethical discussion)? What will the success rate of repair once released? How long will it take to repair? These are just a few on top of my head that can be looked into. 


I think these discoveries will bring Medical and Technological research together to provide better health for all people in the world.

Horizon 2010 Report

The Horizon Report 2010 was a very interesting read. They focus on the education and the way people are learning or will learn in the future is interesting. We are now in this age and it has exploded with other universities moving to the online version of classes. The online classes gives the students and educators the ability to learn and teach at their school of choice. Reading through this report takes me back to my Masters and professors that taught my classes. We had different diversities and from many regions of the world; from our military service members serving over seas to  people that live all over the United States and all over the world.

Things come to mind on the trends that the horizon report discusses. The way people learn while working in a demanding environment. People want to keep up to date on new technology or methodology being implemented. Learning in this type of environment it has come to the reports attention that the "faster approach is the most perceived approach". I would have to disagree with faster is better, due that if you have more of a formal approach a student is able to comprehend the educators teachings. This gives the students a solid base to comprehend after they leave the classroom. Foundation is the key and the challenge is to ensure productive response and learning in a real world setting classroom.

The challenges are in mobile computing and open content for schools. Everything is becoming digital and the digital age is growing as we move to smart phones, wireless lap pads(i Pad) and nook (Book Reading). Utilizing and integrating these technologies into our educational systems will help students learn while in a demanding environment of work, home and schooling. The utilization of smart phones to access school sites for educators and students like checking or grading assignments will be big asset to schools. The challenge that comes to this area is developing universal web apps that devices are able to access on the go.

Open content is another way for educators to develop a universal learning environment. They can develop against existing code that can enhance the way students learn. One example of this is the Moodle software for online learning schools. This is a web portal where educators and students can access information and collaborate on studies virtually. They can upload and down load content on demand. Using this on a computer is easy but for it to accessed through a mobile device the administrator will need to install the plug-in for use for mobile devices. This was a brief research effort and needs to be looked into further for compatibility and functionality. Internet- Blast from the Past!!

I was doing some research today and came across a web page that is unique. It shows web pages from when they were first developed. You are able to type an address in and go to the archive of the web site history. The only thing I can see is that it has a 2 year dead zone from 2008 to 2010.

This site also gives researchers and scholars alike to give examples of present and past comparison of trends, development models and the first internet thinkers. I see that we have come along way in this internet age and from past views we are making it more useful in many areas.

Introduction

This is my first blog post. I am in my doctor in Computer Science with a concentration in Information Assurance. I am looking forward to learning and coming up with new innovative research to advance Cloud computing.
